A foundation of high technological capabilities

MEIRA offers extremely technologically advanced products such as nickel alloy-based super heat resistant alloy bolts for rocket engines, and the small and ultra-high precision bolts used in Hayabusa 2. MEIRA has a long history of fasteners for aerospace applications, the product category that launched the company, and as a specialized manufacturer, we have been growing along with the development of the space and aircraft industries in Japan. The elemental technologies required for the manufacture of fasteners range from materials technology, plastic processing technology, heat treatment technology, surface treatment technology, and non-destructive inspection technology. Aerospace fasteners require a technological width and depth not required in other industries owing to the harsh operating environments these fasteners are intended for, and MEIRA has accumulated manufacturing technology capabilities that satisfy such requirements. The fact that MEIRA has both the bolt analysis technology required for bolt use, which was developed for the automotive industry, and fastening technology, is a major strength of the company. Armed with these high comprehensive technical capabilities, we are able to respond to customers' various requests in the space and aircraft industries.

Offering "only-one products"

MEIRA is active as the only rod manufacturer in Japan, an achievement made possible by our acquisition of new elemental technologies to complement the technological foundation we cultivated for fasteners. Rod parts used in the structural and control systems of aircraft are required to have different types of performance depending on the application. We respond in an integrated manner to the needs of customers in terms of varying strength and function requirements according to the application, from product design proposals to manufacturing, supplying the world with excellent products that perfectly answer each customer’s needs. Thanks to this broad response capability, our rod parts are not used only in aircraft, but also as structural member for attaching the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM), also known as "Kibo," to the International Space Station. Further, our bolts for fixing the bumper shield that protects the body of Kibo from meteorites and space debris have been specially designed to not scratch the space suits of astronauts during extravehicular activities, to not float away into space, and to fit straight away into nuts, making them truly unique "only-one products." MEIRA produces many "only-one products" with pride in technology.

Always striving for new technologies

As the growth of the aircraft industry dramatically increases the need for precision machining, we are trying to limit machining by introducing the latest cutting analysis technology, aiming to establish this as a new elemental technology of MEIRA. Various materials specially designed to have various characteristics and properties are used in aircraft. These include aluminum alloys and titanium alloys for weight reduction, precipitation hardened stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and Inconel and Waspaloy for heat resistance. As a result, even for the same machine processing, completely different processing techniques are required depending on the work material. Based on our experience handling these various materials as fasteners, we are currently working on establishing precision processing technology as our main goal, focusing on difficult-to-cut materials typified by heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant steel. By leveraging this machining technology, we aim to provide customers with precision machined parts that will become new MEIRA brands through the application of our comprehensive technical capabilities making full use of the heat treatment, surface treatment and nondestructive inspection technology we have cultivated for fasteners.
