Development, integrated production and sales of high-strength, high-quality bolts, precision machined parts, etc., for the aerospace, automotive and medical markets.

Automotive/General Industry (R&D)[Company Information]

Ceaselessly pursuing innovation and excellence Automotive/General Industry/Meira is particularly committed to high-strength bolts. One of the reasons is that the aircraft business was our starting point. We have been sending out many products that boast outstanding performance and reliability, top among them bolts used in machines engaged in the world’s top-level races.

Mass production of high strength bolts for engines

The development of automotive engine in the 1980s was characterized by the pursuit of high power, which was enabled by the development of high-strength bolts. Naturally, this achievement was made possible by evaluation of the delayed fracture characteristics important for high-strength bolts and advanced management of the relevant manufacturing factors.
And now, we have succeeded in developing high-strength bolts for new areas heretofore not served by any company in the world, making good our commitment to high-strength bolts.

Practical application of low carbon boron steel

This consists in the development of products that achieve high strength with the use of inexpensive boron, thereby eliminating the need for costly added metals, and is a practice that is becoming increasingly commonly used. This allows a reduction in material cost of approximately 30%.
We achieve high reliability by strictly controlling and ensuring performance factors in manufacturing processes, which previously depended on rare metals.

Diffusion of bolt fastening in plastic region

We propose a plastic region tightening method that draws out the performance of high-strength bolts to the limit through various evaluations including tightening tests.
This tightening method allows downsizing (weight saving) of the fasteners, a major advantage that has contributed greatly to their spread.

Practical application of aluminum bolts for structural fastening

We took on the challenge of developing aluminum bolts that can replace conventional steel bolts in the same locations, in the same sizes and same numbers, and succeeded in getting them used commercially by manufacturers in Japan.
These aluminum bolts contribute greatly to the weight reduction of automobiles.

The automobile industry is entering a transformation period that occurs only once every 100 years, but the emergence of economically developing countries is impressive, and world demand will continue increasing in the future.
In addition, a production shift that emphasizes local production for local consumption is progressing on a global scale.
At the same time, efforts to address the environment cannot be avoided, and environmental technology development in Japan has a very important role to play.

MEIRA’s Automotive Division Engineering Group aims to further contribute to the automobile industry by offering products that earn high customer satisfaction thanks to our processing technology and evaluation technology capabilities, including high strength materials, product development technology, plastic processing technology, heat treatment, and surface treatment, proposing technical solutions for the various challenges faced by our customers, and always aiming for a higher technological level.
